October We Celebrate:  College Awareness Month

Hello Playa del Rey Families & Staff,

Welcome to week 10 of distance learning!  I hope you had a great weekend.

Here’s a look at the week ahead…

Initial COVID Testing for Students

Superintendent Austin Beutner explained in his October 5, 2020 Letter to the School Community, that Los Angeles Unified School District is now offering free COVID-19 tests to all students. The virus testing program is now underway and it’s time for our school community to be tested. Parents may schedule children for testing at one of the sites at your convenience. If families have children at various grade levels, they may schedule for the same date. You can also visit our school website, Facebook, Instagram as well as lausd.net, for more information on the testing program.

School Experience Surveys

ONLINE Parent School Experience Surveys open the week of October 26th:

-Going to http://achieve.lausd.net/schoolexperiencesurvey

-Clicking on the appropriate Parent Survey button (English, Spanish, Korean)

-Choosing their child’s school from a drop-down menu to begin the survey.

Note: No login required to access the online Parent survey. Only a limited number of paper surveys will be shipped to schools. Paper surveys should be reserved only for those households with limited or no internet connectivity. Those parents who receive a paper survey will mail it back to our vendor and not return it to the school. Postage-paid envelopes will be provided with each paper survey.

Playa Monday Morning Assemblies @ 9am

Our Monday morning assemblies will be every week on Mondays at 9 am. Students will watch the video link with their classes. Families are welcome to watch by logging in and viewing with your classroom teacher.  Come and celebrate with us!!

College Awareness Month: After our kick off assembly with LMU, we will continue to celebrate College Awareness month.  Friday, 10/23 is College Wear for spirit day. Students can wear their favorite college colors or T-shirts, hats, socks, etc... Classes with the highest participation will be recognized at an upcoming assembly.

Daylight Saving Time will end on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Remember to set the clock back 1 hour.

Picture Day ~ Save the date November 6th:

We have a picture day scheduled for Friday, November 6th from 8:30am – 3:30pm. Each grade level will get an one-hour time block to take their picture here in our auditorium. Our picture vendor will allow families to purchase packages online or in person. The staff taking photos will be COVID tested and families will only be allowed to admit the student inside the auditorium. Students will be screened before entering the auditorium.  Families will wait outside on Juniette St. as students are escorted in for their picture. We will provide the time slots for each grade level.  If you have multiple children, you may choose one time slot. School staff is welcome to come any time that day. Get your smiles ready!
