Student Council

Purpose of Student Council

The purpose of the student council is to introduce elementary school students to the workings of government and parliamentary procedure. The purpose of student council is also to provide leadership to the student body by providing various opportunities for students’ social, academic, and physical growth.   Elections for the Student Council Officer elections will be held in the beginning of September.

Goals of Student Council

  • Act as an intermediate representative between the student body and the administration
  • Promote the general welfare of the students through encouraging the development of student clubs, and other school events (school spirit, fundraisers,  presentations, etc.)
  • Provide leadership
  • Be self-supporting
  • Develop a budget and allocating funds for various student  body activities
  • Enhance positive school climate
  • Serve as ambassadors for the school

The Student Council positions are:

  • Two Student Council Presidents (fall and spring semester) ­ fifth graders only
  • Two Student Council Vice Presidents (fall and spring semester) ­ fifth graders only
  • Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian ­ fourth or fifth graders. Classroom Representatives for Student Council


Each second through fifth grade classroom elects two students to serve on the council. The officers will be working together with classroom representatives to learn leadership and decision­ making skills and the importance of effective communication. Once again, Playa del Rey Elementary is proud to have our students taking an active role in providing service to our school and community.

Girl Scouts

Several Girl Scout students claim Playa del Rey elementary school as their home. Girl Scouts teaches girls several skills and principles, including: sisterhood, leadership, entrepreneurship, independence, life skills, outdoor survival, and community service. There is one troop that currently meets at the school, while a few other troops meet at local churches and lodges. These girls have supported and lead several service projects at the school and in our local community, including: campus clean ups on Big Sunday, multiple school garden improvement days, singing holiday carols to the elderly, and multiple efforts to help our local homeless population. We hope that you will consider supporting our Girl Scouts throughout the year as they host a variety of service projects and fundraisers.

Kiwanis Kids

KkidsK­-Kids is a nationally recognized community service organization that meets once a month on our school campus. Students work with Circle K, UCLA student members, and the local Kiwanis Rotary club to learn about and take action to support local community needs. Past projects have included: monthly food drives, decorating cookies for women’s shelters, sending cards and letters to service men and women via Operation Gratitude, making fun activity kits for children at Mattel Children’s Hospital, facilitating the Culver City Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, and hosting the annual Culver City Easter Egg Hunt. -Delegates tasks as necessary
-Takes the lead in helping the club develop projects

-Serves the president, other club officers, committees and the general membership
-Learns and helps with the duties of the president in order to fill in or take over as necessary

-Maintains all important files for the club
-Collects reports from the committees’ chairperson

May service project is My Friends Place Encouragement Notes. 

K-Kids will write notes of encouragement that will be delivered to program participants along with our school's May/June toiletries donations.
 
Boy Scouts

Click below for information about Marina Cub Scout Pack 79 kick off.

Several Cub Scouts claim Playa del Rey Elementary School as their home.  Cub Scouts is a precursor to Boy Scouts for boys in grades 1-5.  Our current boy scouts are in troops that meet at local churches and lodges. These boys have supported and led several service projects at the school and in our local community, including: campus clean ups on Big Sunday, facilitating spaghetti dinners to support local organizations, and placing flags on veteran grave sites on Memorial Day.  We hope that you will consider supporting our Boy Scouts throughout the year as they host a variety of service projects and fundraisers.

Our Cub Scouts are currently members in Pack 79 out of Marina Del Rey.
